Samsung dryer error codes: the complete guide

An error code on a Samsung dryer identifies the system that struggled: heating, sensors, door, power or electronics. This guide explains each code family simply, with safe checks and when you need a technician.

  • 6 code families explained
  • Codes vary by dryer type and model

Dryer codes vary between models more than most: vented, condenser and heat-pump dryers may show the same fault in different forms (HE vs HC, or tS vs tO). So we list each code with its common variants.

Note: messages such as “Clean filter”, “Empty water” or a tank icon are maintenance reminders, not faults — they clear once done. If they persist after cleaning and emptying, see our water tank and condenser guide.

tS

Samsung dryer code tS: Temperature sensor error

May also appear as: tO · tE · tC · tS1 · tO1

Meaning

The board receives an implausible reading from the temperature sensor; on many models tS means a short circuit and tO an open circuit.

Likely causes

  • Failed temperature sensor
  • Loose or oxidised connector
  • Wire broken or damaged by heat

Safe checks for users

  • Unplug the dryer for 10 minutes, then restart
  • Make sure the lint filter is clean

Related parts: Temperature sensorWiring & connectorsControl board

When do you need a technician?

  • The code returns after a restart
  • The dryer won’t heat or gets too hot

Model-specific note: The code and its variants differ between vented, condenser and heat-pump dryers.

Can I run the dryer with a sensor error?

Not recommended — the sensor is essential for temperature control, and running without it can harm clothes or the appliance.

HE

Samsung dryer code HE: Heating error or overheating

May also appear as: HC · HE1 · HC1

Meaning

Air isn’t heating properly, or temperature exceeds the limit because of poor airflow.

Likely causes

  • Clogged lint filter or condenser blocking airflow
  • Failed heating element or thermal fuse
  • Weak blower fan
  • Heating circuit fault

Safe checks for users

  • Clean the lint filter thoroughly
  • Clean the condenser per your manual (on models where it’s user-cleanable)
  • Let the dryer cool, then restart

When do you need a technician?

  • The code returns after cleaning the filters
  • There is a burning smell
  • Clothes always come out cold

Model-specific note: On heat-pump dryers the code may relate to the heat-pump system rather than a conventional heater.

Why does my dryer overheat?

Usually an airflow blockage: lint filter, condenser or vent duct. Cleaning them is the first and most important safety step.

dE

Samsung dryer code dE: Door open or door-switch problem

May also appear as: dC · dO · dE1

Meaning

The dryer doesn’t detect the door as closed, so it won’t start or stops.

Likely causes

  • Door not fully closed or clothes trapped
  • Damaged door catch or switch
  • Wiring issue

Safe checks for users

  • Open the door, clear trapped clothing and close it firmly
  • Make sure the lint filter is seated if it sits in the door opening

Related parts: Door switchWiring & connectorsControl board

When do you need a technician?

  • The door is closed and the code still shows
  • The door catch is broken

Model-specific note: On some models the filter must be fitted correctly for the door to close.

Can the lint filter cause a door code?

On some models, yes — if it isn’t fully seated it can stop the door closing properly.

9E

Samsung dryer code 9E: Abnormal supply voltage

May also appear as: 9C · 9C1 · 9E1 · Uc

Meaning

The dryer detects supply voltage outside the normal range.

Likely causes

  • Fluctuating or low household supply
  • Unsuitable extension lead or socket
  • Voltage-sensing circuit fault

Safe checks for users

  • Plug the dryer directly into an earthed wall socket
  • Wait for the supply to stabilise, then restart

Related parts: Wiring & connectorsControl board

When do you need a technician?

  • The code appears although the supply is stable
  • Other appliances on the same circuit work normally

Model-specific note: Sub-codes vary by model.

Does a dryer need a special socket?

It needs an earthed socket rated for its power, without extensions, ideally not shared with other high-power appliances.

AE

Samsung dryer code AE: Communication error between boards

May also appear as: AC · AE1

Meaning

Communication between the display board and the main board is interrupted.

Likely causes

  • Loose connector or damaged wire
  • Supply fluctuations
  • Fault on one of the boards

Safe checks for users

  • Unplug for 10 minutes, then restart

Related parts: Control boardDisplay & button boardWiring & connectors

When do you need a technician?

  • The code returns after a restart
  • The display flickers or goes off

Model-specific note: Needs electronic diagnosis if it persists.

Does AE mean replacing the board?

Not always — it may be a loose connector or damaged wire; diagnosis decides.

bE

Samsung dryer code bE: Stuck button

May also appear as: bC · bE1 · bE2

Meaning

The dryer detects a button held down continuously.

Likely causes

  • Button stuck by dirt or moisture
  • Faulty button board

Safe checks for users

  • Press the buttons gently and make sure they spring back
  • Restart after unplugging

Related parts: Display & button boardWiring & connectors

When do you need a technician?

  • The code returns after a restart
  • Buttons don’t respond

Model-specific note: The suffix may identify the button depending on the model.

Can I clean the button panel?

Wipe it with a dry cloth only — never spray cleaning liquids on it.

Frequently asked questions

Samsung dryer error code FAQ

How do I reset a Samsung dryer after a code?

After fixing the cause, unplug for 10 minutes and restart. If the code returns immediately, the cause is still there.

What’s the difference between HE and HC?

Both relate to heating or overheating; the form differs by dryer type and model.

Is “Empty water” a fault?

No — it’s a reminder that the tank is full. Empty and refit it. If it stays on with an empty tank, the pump or level sensor may be at fault.

My code isn’t listed — what should I do?

Photograph the display and model label and send them on WhatsApp to 0782540147; we’ll help interpret it.

Need a Samsung repair technician?

Send us the model, the error code and a description of the fault — or book a technician visit in Amman, Zarqa, Salt, Madaba or Sahab.
