Quick answer
Check the fridge setting (around 3 °C) and that Power Cool isn’t left on, and move sensitive food away from the cold-air vents. If freezing continues, the sensor or air damper is the most likely cause.
Overview
In many Samsung fridges cold air enters the fridge compartment through vents in the back or top wall. Food right against these vents gets much colder air than the compartment average.
So food can freeze in one spot while the overall temperature is normal. If food freezes everywhere, the system itself is over-cooling.
Likely causes
-
1
Temperature setting or Power Cool
A setting of 1 °C or lower, or Power Cool left on for a long time.

2
Food in front of the vents
Vegetables and drinks against cold-air vents freeze even with a normal setting.
-
3
Fridge temperature sensor
A reading higher than reality keeps the board cooling; 2E may appear.

4
Air damper
On some models, a damper stuck open lets cold air in constantly.

5
Control board
Rarely, a control fault keeps cooling running.

Safe checks before calling a technician
Unplug the fridge before cleaning the rear grille or moving it, and close the water supply tap if there’s a leak. Don’t remove inner panels or the compressor cover, and never chip ice with sharp tools — you could puncture the refrigerant tubing.
- Set the fridge to around 3 °C, cancel Power Cool if on, and wait 24 hours.
- Move vegetables, eggs and drinks away from the rear vents.
- Avoid putting sensitive food on the top back shelf on models where air enters there.
- Put a simple thermometer in a glass of water in the middle of the fridge to see the real temperature.
- A nearly empty fridge fluctuates more — that’s normal to a degree.
Parts involved
Temperature sensors
Measure fridge and freezer temperatures so the board can run the compressor and fans.
Air damper
Controls how much cold air enters the fridge compartment on some models.
Main control board
Reads sensors and runs the compressor, fans and defrost.
Display panel
The door display and buttons for setting temperature and showing codes.
When should you call a technician?
- Freezing continues on all shelves despite correct settings.
- The thermometer reads below 0 °C in the fridge.
- 2E appears or temperatures change illogically.

Frequently asked questions
What’s the ideal fridge temperature?
Around 3 °C suits most food, staying below 5 °C for food safety.
Why do vegetables freeze only in the drawer?
The drawer may be near a cold-air inlet on your model, or set to a low-temperature mode if it has its own control.
Does an empty fridge get colder?
An empty fridge is more affected by door opening and fluctuates more, but it shouldn’t freeze food if the setting is right.
