Quick answer
Make sure dispenser lock or child lock is off, the supply tap is open, and the filter is fully seated and not expired. After replacing the filter, run several glasses to purge air. If no water comes out at all and the ice maker has stopped too, the supply or valve is the likely cause.
Overview
Water runs from the household tap through a line to the inlet valve, then the filter, then a tank or coil inside the fridge to chill, then to the dispenser in the door. Any blockage or freeze along this path weakens the flow.
So we always ask: does the ice maker work? If it does and the dispenser doesn’t, the problem is usually the dispenser itself or the door tube.
Likely causes
-
1
Dispenser lock or child lock
A lock stops the dispenser completely; a lock icon usually shows on the display.

2
Water filter
An expired or partly seated filter reduces or stops flow, and some models won’t work without a filter or its bypass cap.

3
Closed tap or low pressure
Household water pressure below what’s required, or a half-closed tap.

4
Frozen tube in the door
A very cold freezer setting or cold air leaking around the tube can freeze the water inside it.

5
Inlet valve
A valve that doesn’t open means no water for the dispenser or ice maker.

6
Dispenser switch
A paddle or switch that doesn’t signal the valve.

Safe checks before calling a technician
Unplug the fridge before cleaning the rear grille or moving it, and close the water supply tap if there’s a leak. Don’t remove inner panels or the compressor cover, and never chip ice with sharp tools — you could puncture the refrigerant tubing.
- Cancel dispenser lock or child lock on the control panel if it’s on.
- Make sure the supply tap is fully open.
- Remove and refit the filter until it locks fully, or replace it if expired.
- After replacing the filter, run several glasses in bursts to purge air.
- A few drops after use can be normal; continuous dripping needs checking.
- If the freezer is set very cold, raise it slightly to avoid freezing the tube.
Parts involved
Water filter
Filters dispenser and ice-maker water; an expired filter slows the flow.
Water inlet valve
Opens to supply the dispenser and ice maker.
Water line & fittings
Tubing from the supply to the dispenser; can freeze, kink or leak.
Dispenser assembly
The paddle, switches and motor that deliver water or ice through the door.
Display panel
The door display and buttons for setting temperature and showing codes.
When should you call a technician?
- No water from the dispenser and no ice despite a good filter and open tap.
- You hear the valve but no water comes out.
- Continuous dripping or a leak under the dispenser.
- The door tube keeps freezing.

Frequently asked questions
Why isn’t the water cold?
After drawing a lot, new water needs time to chill. If it’s always warm, the fridge itself may not be cooling properly.
How often should I change the water filter?
As your model’s manual recommends and depending on use; many fridges show a reminder when it’s due.
Why does water sputter after changing the filter?
Air in the line — run several glasses until the flow is steady.
